Zeppelin Speaker Conversion
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A nice and colourful project. I was given a broken B&W Speaker and asked if I could repair it, and also make it light up / respond to the audio it was playing back.
I tackled the project firstly by fixing what had gone wrong with the speaker, which turned out to be some blown capacitors on the power supply. I then had to work out how to install some LED lights and put everything back inside the speaker. I went for some readily available LED rings and made some 3D printed mounts to support them above the speakers. As the design of the original speaker is pretty smart already, I didn't want to add any extra buttons / knobs to it - so I made a small remote box that plugged into the rear to control the lights.
Skills Involved:
- Dismantling and reassembly.
- Electronic faultfinding and repair.
- 3D Modeling and 3D printing.
- Arduino programming.
The end result was a fully functioning B&W Speaker once more, but it now had a party trick where you can select various colour pattens to dance in time to the music, all hidden away inside.
